When I started creating the OBSIDIAN Cymbals Pack, my goal was to create clear, modern, and powerful enough to fit directly into real trap and drill beats without heavy processing. Cymbals might seem like a small part of a track, but in reality, they control energy, rhythm, and transitions. So I didn’t treat this pack as background sounds.
OBSIDIAN – Sounds In Pack
| Total Sounds = 42 |
|---|
| Sample | Quantity |
| Crashes | 8 |
| Closed Hi-Hats | 15 |
| Open Hats | 10 |
| Rides | 9 |
All sounds were processed and arranged inside FL Studio. I laid everything out in the playlist to visually compare waveforms, lengths, and dynamics. This step helped me avoid randomness. I could clearly see which sounds were too similar and which ones added real value.

OBSIDIAN – Crashes
I began with the 8 crash cymbals.
Crashes are not just about loudness; they shape transitions and define sections like hooks and drops. I designed each crash with a different texture:
Some are wide and atmospheric
Some are sharp and aggressive
Others are softer for subtle transitions

I carefully controlled the decay. Too long, and the mix becomes messy. Too short, and the impact disappears. So I balanced the tail length to make each crash usable in different situations.

OBSIDIAN – Closed Hi-Hats
Next, I focused on the 15 closed hi-hats the most detailed part of the pack. Hi-hats are responsible for groove, bounce, and movement. Instead of repeating similar sounds, I created variation in:
- Brightness (dark vs crisp hats)
- Length (tight vs slightly open feel)
- Texture (clean vs slightly saturated)

Some hats are designed for fast, rolling patterns. Others are more minimal and controlled, perfect for simple trap beats. This variety allows producers to build different rhythms without needing extra processing.
OBSIDIAN – Open Hi-Hats
Open hats are usually placed at key points in a beat, so they need to stand out without being overwhelming.

I focused on:
- Strong attack
- Clean high frequencies
- Controlled decay
Some open hats hit hard and aggressively, perfect for drill beats. Others are smoother and blend better in melodic tracks. The idea was to cover multiple styles while keeping everything consistent.
OBSIDIAN – Rides
Finally, I designed the 9 ride cymbals. Rides are often underrated, but they add a steady rhythmic layer that can completely change the vibe of a beat.
I created rides that are:
Smooth and consistent
Slightly textured for character
Balanced in the high frequencies

These rides work well in the background, adding motion without overpowering other elements.

OBSIDIAN – Cymbals Processing & Arrangement
Once the raw sounds were ready, I moved into detailed processing. I used EQ to remove harsh frequencies and clean up the top end. Cymbals can easily become too sharp, so I made sure they stayed crisp but smooth.
I also applied:
Light compression for consistency
Stereo widening for space
Subtle saturation for character

Everything was done carefully no overprocessing. The goal was to enhance, not destroy, the natural sound.
I arranged all the cymbals side by side to compare:
- Length
- Volume balance
- Tonal differences
This helped me remove duplicates and keep only the strongest sounds. It also ensured that every sample in the pack has a purpose.

OBSIDIAN – Cymbals Identity & Export
Even with 42 different sounds, I made sure everything feels connected. The entire pack shares a similar tone, clean, modern, and slightly dark. This makes it easy to use multiple sounds together without clashing. That’s what gives OBSIDIAN its identity.
Once everything was finalized, I exported all samples in high quality and organized them properly. Each file is clearly named and categorized, making it easy to use. No confusion. No wasted time.

Just drag, drop, and create.
