When I started building the OBSIDIAN 808s Pack, I wasn’t just trying to make another drum kit. I wanted to create something that feels dark, powerful, and instantly usable. Something that hits hard the moment you drag it into your project.
So I approached it like sound sculpting, not just sound selection.

OBSIDIAN – 808s Starting From Nothing
I didn’t rely fully on pre-made 808s. Most of the sounds started from simple sine waves inside FL Studio. From there, I shaped each one step by step.
- This gave me full control.
- No randomness. No guesswork.
- Just raw sound being turned into something aggressive.

OBSIDIAN – 808s Tuning Was Everything
Before doing anything creative, I made sure every 808 was perfectly tuned. Each sample is labeled with its root note – A, B, C, D#, F# – so it fits directly into your beat.
- A badly tuned 808 can ruin a track.
- A perfectly tuned one makes everything feel glued together.
I spent time adjusting pitch and fine-tuning by ear until it felt right, not just technically correct, but musically correct.

OBSIDIAN – 808s Shaping the Energy
Not every 808 should behave the same.
Some need to hit and disappear. Others need to stretch and carry the whole vibe.
So I designed different envelope styles:
Short and punchy 808s for aggressive beats
Long and sustained 808s for melodic tracks
Smooth fading ones for ambient or emotional vibes
If you look at the arrangement, you’ll notice how some 808s cut off quickly while others extend across bars. That contrast was intentional. It gives producers options.

OBSIDIAN – 808s Distortion
This is where OBSIDIAN really became OBSIDIAN.
I pushed distortion in different ways:
- Soft clipping for controlled punch
- Heavy saturation for aggressive tones
- Subtle harmonic distortion for warmth
Some 808s are clean and deep. Others are gritty, loud, and impossible to ignore.

But I always kept one rule in mind: never destroy the low end.
Because once the sub is gone, the 808 loses its purpose.
OBSIDIAN – 808s Layering
A pure sub sounds amazing on headphones. But on phones or small speakers? It disappears. So for some 808s, I layered:
- A clean sub-layer
- A mid-frequency layer with distortion
This way, the 808 still hits everywhere. Big speakers. Small speakers. Cars. Phones.

OBSIDIAN – 808s EQ & Dynamics
After designing the core, I cleaned everything with EQ. I removed mud.
Controlled the low frequencies.
Enhanced the fundamental tone.

Nothing excessive, just enough to make each 808 feel tight and professional. Because clarity is just as important as power.
I didn’t over-compress these 808s. Over-processing kills energy.
Instead, I used light control only where needed, letting most of the natural punch stay untouched.
That’s why these 808s feel alive when you use them.

Why OBSIDIAN?
The OBSIDIAN 808s Pack is not about quantity. It’s about intention.
Every 808 was shaped and refined to work in real music, not just sound good in isolation. From clean subs to distorted hitters, this pack gives you a strong low-end foundation for any trap or drill production.
OBSIDIAN – 808s Structures
In the playlist, you can see how I laid out multiple 808s with different tones and lengths. This wasn’t random. It was part of the testing and comparison. Some 808s are made for simple patterns. Others are perfect for slides and complex basslines. The goal was flexibility. No matter your style, you find something that fits.
